Claire Marshall is a freelance choreographer, independent artist, & teacher who has been working for 20 years in both commercial & contemporary dance.  As a student, Claire trained in RAD & CSTD dance & gained her CSTD students teachers diploma in 1995 before deciding to audition for full time dance at QUT perusing choreography.

Since graduating from QUT (Bachelor of Arts – Dance) Claire has choreographed the Savage Garden Affirmation 2000 World Tour, Darren Hayes’ How to Build a Time Machine UK Tour, & dance projected during George Michael’s 2006 tour.  She has choreographed numerous film clips for artists including Darren Hayes, The Living End, The Sleepy Jackson, John Butler Trio, Little Birdie, Kate Miller-Heidke, Skipping Girl Vinegar, & Powderfinger, as well as TV commercials, corporate showcase performances, & movement on the web.

Her contemporary work includes numerous independent projects at The Judith Wright Centre, The Brisbane Powerhouse, Qld Performing Arts Centre, (QPAC), & her work has toured to the Arts Centre Gold Coast & to the Cairns Festival.  In 2014, her acclaimed work SlowDive was selected to be presented at The Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM) – a showcase of Australian leading dance & theatre work to international delegates.

Claire has choreographed for QUT dance performance students, & for Expressions Dance Company.  Claire enjoys working with young dancers & students.  Claire was resident choreographer of youth based company Urban Ignition in 2008 & 2009, & has choreographed numerous pieces for students, high schools, & dance schools over the past 20 years. Claire also has a Cert IV in Music Industry Business, & NEIS Cert IV in Small Business Management.

Claire’s recent dance film ‘Pulse’ was a finalist for an Australian Dance Award in 2013 – the awards being the highest honour in Australian Dance.  In 2014 her recent dance film Ward of State premiered in Brisbane.

In 2014, Claire embarked on Mill Street Studios as studio director, bringing a wealth of industry experience to the school.  Rather than taking up becoming a full time jazz, tap, & ballet teacher, or to become a traditional ‘dance studio principal’, Claire’s focus is on shaping & building the school, as leader who is a current practising industry professional.  Claire is involved in teaching a few classes and with the performance groups.  Claire has personally selected a team of teachers to teach the wide variety of classes & disciplines offered at Mill Street Studios.
